Tring is a welcoming, friendly and competitive tennis club. We organise a variety of social events and internal competitions, and run several teams in our local leagues to cater for a wide range of tastes and abilities.

Mix-in sessions are scheduled 3 times per week for adult members throughout the year. Court time is also reserved for general play and coaching with our resident qualified coaches. We are particularly proud of our achievements with junior members who make up around 50% of our total membership. We firmly believe that our commitment to our younger players is the lifeblood of our thriving sports club.

AGM January 2012

Dear club member

It has been my privilege to chair the committee of Tring Tennis Club for another year. I feel very fortunate to have been part of a club run entirely by volunteers which boasts such excellent facilities.

One of our principal aims at the start of 2011 was to recruit and retain around 50 additional members before the end of 2012.  During the year we ran two ‘fun days’ in April and June which did attract new members, but we still need to step up the effort in 2012 if we are to hit our target. As such, further fun days are planned for 2012 which do require the active support of members.

As you may already have heard, I will not be standing as Chairman in 2012. I have very much enjoyed my years in the role (is it six or seven years?) but now’s the time to hand over to someone else.

Perhaps the Chairman’s biggest challenge has been to ensure that each decision on the future of the club is taken with the interests of the entire club in mind, recognising that most of our club members (>50%) are still at school! We are very lucky to have such a thriving junior section and I feel very lucky to have worked with committee members over the years that have recognised this and have worked tirelessly to ensure this part of our club is given the focus and resources it requires.  My heartfelt thanks go out to each of them. My thanks also go to our Head Coach, Paul Hobday, and his entire coaching team who take the lead in our work with the juniors.

As the AGM approaches, you will see that I am not the only member of the committee standing down which is leaving several committee posts open. Your help is now needed so do please think seriously about how you can best support your club in 2012.

With my very best wishes for a successful year of tennis

Nigel Kippax
